This is our favourite quote from Functional Nutrition Therapist, Charlotte Evans who recently tested our dishes for taste and nutritional goodness. Charlotte reviewed our staycation foodie box whilst on a family holiday in the Lake District and here’s what she had to say …..
I was over the moon to be invited to try the Farmyard Frozen range recently. I am a HUGE fan of the restaurant, having been several times over the years and I have never been disappointed. So, of
course, I jumped at the chance.
My family and I went to the Lake District for a week, so we thought this would be the perfect time to try some of the range. And oh, how we congratulated ourselves afterwards for that inspired idea! I can’t tell you how easy it made meal times. Of course, we are all familiar with the following feeling….we have been out all day, had a jolly lovely old time, only to be hit with that sinking feeling of needing to think about what to buy and cook for dinner. Where is the nearest shop? Is it still open? Is it just the local NISA and we are faced with spam and a tin of spaghetti hoops?
So, the fact that there was something wholesome and delicious ready waiting for us when we got back to the cottage was game-changing. Let an AA rosette chef and his team cook our
supper I say – clever us!
Day 1
- Norfolk Lamb Hotpot, which, when paired with a load of fresh veg filled everyone’s bellies with happiness.
- Famous Farmyard Chocolate Bar for pudding. This thing should really be illegal, except for the fact that it is made with 70% dark chocolate and therefore we can reassure ourselves of the polyphenol power countering the decadence.
Day 2
- Wild Mushroom Mac and Cheese served with some chicken breasts and again a tonne of veg. The children were complaining I didn’t give them enough of it. They would eat that all day long and they don’t even like mushrooms!
Day 3
- The Mushroom and Truffled Norfolk Chicken was a bit of a risk where the kids were concerned (truffle is not known for its child-friendliness), but they gobbled it down. I served it with Quinoa and aduki beans, steamed greens, and purple sprouting broccoli. Absolutely delicious.
- Sticky Date Pudding with some clotted cream as a treat. My husband and I just about managed a small spoonful before it was vacuumed up. Date pudding has long been a favourite of mine and I am overjoyed to report that it didn’t disappoint. No exaggeration to say it’s up there with some of the best I have ever tasted. My only criticism is that it didn’t come with at least 1.5 litres of the incredible butterscotch sauce.
Day 4
- Norfolk Beef Stroganoff – served with brown basmati rice, roasted courgettes and green beans. My husband and I were in agreement that this was our favourite (just).
Day 5
- On the final evening, we put the kids to bed early and had the Handcrafted Beef Wellington, with asparagus and horseradish mash and a lovely bottle of red. Utter. Heaven.
In Conclusion:
As a Nutritional Therapist and Health Coach, I am acutely aware of the difficulty of balancing meals that tick the boxes from a health perspective whilst also being delicious. I am, of course, very keen to know where the ingredients are sourced from and the manufacturing process behind the product. I care deeply that if I am not cooking meals myself, they have not been produced by a robot in a factory. That a fellow human being who really cares about the quality of the raw ingredients and how they all come together has had a literal hand in producing food for my family.
And that is what you get with Farmyard Frozen. Actual chefs, who actually cook the meals themselves, who actually know and are passionate about where the ingredients come from. They can name the local meat supplier, the guys and gals who supply the local veggies, have visited the farms and met the farmers. Who has had ‘eyes on’ the ingredients every step of the way. And that matters to me, both on a personal level and a professional one too. I will only recommend products I have tried and tested and researched and am happy to buy myself.
For those occasions where my patients want to deviate slightly from their protocols, have a special gathering they want to cater for, or, as in our case, are going away for a break and don’t want to cook, Farmyard frozen products are a great way to stay on track health-wise, whilst relaxing and enjoying delicious restaurant quality food.
